KAI: AI product descriptions in bulk for Shopware 6 and Shopify

KAI writes product descriptions for online shops from your own product data, in bulk and in several languages. A Web Labels project with tobias-schaefer.com.

Background

Many online shops take their product descriptions from the supplier or have none at all for part of their range. The same sentences then appear in many other shops, and search engines find little that sets their own product page apart.

Writing descriptions by hand hardly pays off with thousands of items. KAI is our answer to this, our own project that we develop and run together with tobias-schaefer.com.

The task

The tool had to write descriptions for entire categories in one pass without inventing content. The only basis allowed was the data already in the shop: product properties, shop information, supplier texts and product images.

The finished descriptions also had to go back into the shop or the ERP system, and in several languages if required.

Our solution

KAI connects to Shopware 6 or Shopify and synchronises the products at the push of a button. You create profiles for categories and dynamic product groups, and KAI writes the descriptions from them. Meta titles and meta descriptions are generated at no extra cost.

The descriptions return to the shop as clean HTML with subheadings and lists. If you do not want to connect a shop, you can export them as a CSV file for your ERP or PIM.

Technology and data flows

The descriptions are written by OpenAI language models: GPT-5.4-mini as standard, GPT-5.5 for premium texts. Translations run via OpenAI or DeepL, as you prefer. KAI also reads product images and includes them in the description.

The descriptions go back into the shop via the Shopware 6 and Shopify APIs. Billing is based on credits rather than a subscription.

Implementation

KAI works in four steps: sign up and connect your shop, synchronise, create profiles, then push the descriptions back or export them. Agencies also use KAI as a service for their clients' shops, with any number of shops in one account.

Result

KAI is live at mitkai.de and used by online shops. For us, KAI is also a lab: what we learn there about language models, prompts and shop interfaces goes into client projects on AI and automation.
