Why a car parts shop needs more than a product catalogue

A suspension kit, a wheel or an exhaust system only fits certain vehicles. If customers cannot quickly find out whether a part fits their car, they phone you or buy elsewhere. A car parts shop therefore stands or falls with clean vehicle data and a search that starts from the car.

What garages, parts retailers and tuners gain from working with us

  • Shopware Partner since 2014, with shops for suspension, wheels, tyres, exhaust systems and tuning parts.
  • Vehicle search by make, model and engine, or directly by HSN and TSN from the vehicle registration document.
  • We prepare TecDoc data, KBA numbers and manufacturer data sets and keep them up to date via imports.
  • Shop, data import, tuning database and garage website from one team.

An agency that really understands tuning

Many agencies build online shops. We build shops for people who know what a combined approval entry is. Fitment, KW V4, upgrade turbos, valved exhaust systems, downpipes or custom maps: for us these are not foreign words but everyday work from many projects with tuners, manufacturers and retailers.

You do not have to explain to us why a part may only be sold with a certificate, why a suspension kit does not simply fit every Golf or why vehicle fitment matters more than any banner on the home page. We speak your language. With us, you do not start from scratch.

Tuning is familiar ground for us: we know the parts, the data and your customers’ questions.

Online shops for car parts and tuning accessories

A car parts shop sells parts that only fit certain cars. Suspension kits, sports springs, wheels, tyres, exhaust systems, downpipes, intercoolers or tuning boxes: for every item, the customer’s first question is whether it fits their vehicle. That is why the vehicle search comes first in our shops and is not tucked away somewhere in the sidebar.

Technically, we build the shops with Shopware 6. The system handles large product ranges with many variants, can be extended with custom plugins and connects inventory management, suppliers and marketplaces. For retailers with garage customers, customer groups and individual prices can be added as well.

Vehicle search by make, model and HSN/TSN

There are two kinds of vehicle search, and most shops need both. In the first, the customer selects make, model and engine step by step. The second is quicker: they type the HSN and TSN from the registration document into two fields, and the shop identifies the vehicle via the KBA number. From then on, categories, listings and search only show parts that fit that car.

If required, the selected vehicle stays saved as the customer clicks through the shop. So anyone looking for wheels after the suspension kit does not have to enter their car a second time. On the product page the customer sees which vehicles the item is approved for, and certificates can be provided for download where needed.

Search, filters and loading time

Large parts catalogues need fast search. We use OpenSearch for this and design the filters around the product range, for wheels by size, bolt pattern and offset, for tyres by dimension and season. How fast a shop with many items and vehicle assignments stays depends on the database, cache and search. What we do about this is described on the page on Shopware performance.

public static function getSubscribedEvents(): array
{
    return [
        ProductPageLoadedEvent::class => 'onProductPage',
    ];
}

public function onProductPage(ProductPageLoadedEvent $event): void
{ /* add data without touching the core */ }
We build extensions as separate Shopware plugins so the shop stays update-safe.

Data preparation: TecDoc, HSN/TSN and manufacturer data

The most demanding part of a car parts shop is rarely the design. It is the data. Parts come from TecDoc, from manufacturers, from wholesalers or from your own inventory management, and every source supplies them in a different format. We bring this data into a form that Shopware and the vehicle search can work with. Whether data sets from TecDoc, HSN/TSN, KW, AP, ST, Schmidt, BBS or a tuning file database: we take care of the preparation.

TecDoc and Shopware: parts data and vehicle assignment

TecDoc data contains items, vehicles and the links between them. We import it, match it against your item numbers and create the vehicle assignments in Shopware. This becomes the vehicle search, and the product page shows the list of matching vehicles. You decide which parts from the data pool you actually sell. We only import what belongs in your product range.

HSN/TSN and KBA numbers

For the search by registration document to work, every vehicle in the shop needs its key numbers. We link HSN and TSN to the vehicles from TecDoc or from the manufacturer data. If a source only supplies model and year of manufacture, we match it against a second source so that in the end every combination points to the right vehicle.

Data sets from KW, AP, ST, Schmidt and BBS

Many manufacturers supply their own data sets with items, prices, images and vehicle approvals, for example for suspension from KW, AP and ST or wheels from Schmidt and BBS. We prepare these files and merge them with the remaining data so that a vehicle does not appear three times in the shop under slightly different names. If the data comes as CSV or XML, we build a fixed import. If there is an API, we fetch the data directly.

Importing and maintaining large parts catalogues

A one-off import is not enough in the automotive trade. Prices change, stock levels change and manufacturers add new vehicles. That is why we set up imports that run regularly, only transfer changes and log every run. How we build such synchronisations is described under custom integrations. If you are moving from an old shop system, we carry over items, customers and assignments via data migration.

Wherever your data comes from

TecDoc, manufacturer CSV, supplier feed, inventory management or the Excel list that has grown over the years: where your item data comes from is secondary for us. We prepare it so that it works in the shop, for consumers in B2C just as for garages and retailers in B2B with their own prices, customer groups and tiers. Our references further down show that this holds up in practice.

Tuning data: performance databases on websites

Tuners rarely sell a product off the shelf. They sell a performance upgrade for a specific vehicle. A tuning database on the website answers every prospect’s first question: what will a remap do for my car?

The visitor selects make, model and engine and sees the performance figures in hp and Nm before and after the remap. From there they go straight to the enquiry, with the selected vehicle already filled in. The figures come from your tuning file or performance database. We connect it via import and make sure new vehicles appear on the website without manual work. For MS Motorperformance we built a tuning configurator that lets customers calculate the performance gain using their vehicle data.

Websites for car garages and tuning companies

Not every business needs a shop. A garage needs a website that explains its services, builds trust and makes it easy to request an appointment. This includes dedicated pages for services such as inspections, paintwork or insurance claims, a clear mobile layout and the technical groundwork for local search.

For smaller businesses we build websites with Modiva, as for TRUPP KFZ-Service in Bargteheide. Tuners with their own parts range get a website with a shop or a shop with content pages. All options, from a package to a bespoke website, can be found under website development.

Why Shopware for a tuning shop

A tuning shop built with Shopware has an advantage that counts in day-to-day business: vehicle search, imports and shop logic can be cleanly separated from the core system as plugins. Shopware updates therefore remain possible without having to rebuild the vehicle search every time. Our own extensions, such as the category quick selection by manufacturer, series and model, already run in several shops in this sector.

To get started, all it takes is a conversation about your product range and a sample file of your data. This quickly shows us how much preparation is needed and what the vehicle search in your shop could look like.

How your Shopware tuning shop comes together

  1. Initial call and data check

    We talk about your product range, target group and existing data. You send us sample files from TecDoc, manufacturers or suppliers, and we check how they can be mapped.

  2. Concept and quote

    We define how the vehicle search works, which data comes from where and how often it is updated. You also receive a transparent quote.

  3. Building shop and import

    We design the shop, develop the vehicle search and build the imports. The data runs in a test environment first so that you can check the assignments.

  4. Launch and maintenance

    After launch the imports keep running automatically. We add new manufacturers, vehicles or features step by step.

Frequently asked questions about car parts shops, TecDoc and tuning data

All questions and answers
Can you integrate TecDoc data into a Shopware shop?

Yes. We import TecDoc data, assign items to the matching vehicles and use this to build the vehicle search in the shop. In what form your data is available is something we clarify in the first conversation using a sample file.

How does vehicle search by HSN and TSN work?

HSN and TSN are the key numbers in the German vehicle registration document. The customer enters both numbers in two fields, the shop identifies the vehicle and only shows parts approved for it. Alternatively, they select make, model and engine step by step, as on Fahrwerkonline.

Do you also process data sets directly from manufacturers?

Yes. We prepare data sets from manufacturers such as KW, AP, ST, Schmidt and BBS, whether as CSV, XML or via an interface. For the FOX Sportauspuffe shop, for example, dedicated imports run for FOX, Bastuck, E-Exhaust, HG and Ulter.

Can you add a tuning database to our website?

Yes. Visitors select their vehicle and see the performance figures before and after the remap. For MS Motorperformance we built a tuning configurator that lets customers calculate the performance gain and request a quote straight away.

Do you also build websites for car garages?

Yes. A garage website shows services, process and contact details and makes booking an appointment easy. For example, we built the website of TRUPP KFZ-Service in Bargteheide with Modiva, with dedicated pages for insurance claims and windscreen repair.

How do prices, stock levels and vehicle assignments stay up to date?

Through automatic imports. We define how often each source is synchronised and log every run. If a manufacturer changes its data, the changes reach the shop without manual work.

Can you move an existing tuning shop to Shopware 6?

Yes. Fahrwerkonline originally ran on Shopware 5, and we migrated the shop completely to Shopware 6. Products, customers and vehicle assignments are carried over from the old system.
