Why PageSpeed optimisation is about more than a good score

A poor PageSpeed score tells you that something is slowing things down, but not what. Often it is large images, tracking and chat scripts, fonts from external servers or a slow server response. If you only optimise for the score, you often improve the measurement rather than the page.

What PageSpeed optimisation does for you

  • Main content and images appear faster (LCP).
  • The page responds to clicks and input without long delays (INP).
  • Layouts no longer jump while loading (CLS).
  • Field data shows whether the improvement reaches real visitors.

Scope of services

What our PageSpeed optimisation covers

  • Measurement

With PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse and real user data.

  • Images

AVIF or WebP in suitable sizes, with lazy loading.

  • CSS and JavaScript

    Whatever blocks loading is reduced.

  • Third-party scripts

We review tracking, widgets and the consent solution.

  • Fonts

    Hosted locally and preloaded selectively.

  • Server and cache

Caching, compression and a fast server response.

In PageSpeed optimisation we improve the loading time of websites and online shops and the Core Web Vitals that Google evaluates as a page experience signal. We measure with lab and field data, find the causes in images, scripts, fonts and server, and solve whatever brings the most benefit first. For Shopware shops there is a separate page on Shopware performance.

Tech stack

  1. ApplicationShopware, Laravel or WordPress with theme and plugins
  2. Cache and searchRedis and Elasticsearch configured to fit
  3. PHPcurrent version with OPcache
  4. Serverour own servers with NVMe storage
We look at every layer, not just the theme: from the application through cache and search to the server.

The three Core Web Vitals

LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) measures when the largest visible element has loaded, usually an image or a heading. INP (Interaction to Next Paint) shows how quickly the page responds to clicks and input. CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) records how much the layout shifts while loading. Each value has different causes, so we measure them separately.

PageSpeed Optimisation and Core Web Vitals | Web Labels

PageSpeed optimisation by Web Labels: faster loading and better Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS) via measurement, optimised images, leaner code and fast servers.

This is how this page appears in search with its title and description. We write both ourselves for every page.

Typical bottlenecks and what we do

We deliver images as AVIF or WebP in the size the device needs. Tracking, chat and advertising scripts load later or only after consent. We host fonts locally instead of fetching them from third-party servers. On the server side we check caching, compression and response time. If the cause lies with the host, our hosting is worth a look. For shops, read on under Shopware performance, and the fundamentals of indexing are covered under technical SEO.

Frequently asked questions about PageSpeed optimisation

All questions and answers
Do I need a score of 100 in PageSpeed Insights?

No. The score is an indicator under defined test conditions. What matters more is the field data from real visitors and fast key pages. We optimise the causes and use the score as a check.

Are Core Web Vitals a ranking factor?

Google uses the Core Web Vitals as one of many signals for page experience. A fast page does not replace good content, but it improves usability, especially on smartphones.

Why is my site slow in the test but feels fast to me?

Lab values simulate a slow smartphone on a throttled connection. Your own computer is usually faster and already has many files in its cache. That is why we compare lab and field data.
