Looking for Shopware 6? Read our Shopware 6 guide!
Here is a short overview of the most important Shopware performance points.
It’s a familiar problem: you run lots of plugins, elaborate shopping worlds or many requests on the home page. Here are the key points that clear the way for good conversion and good Shopware performance. From our experience, these are the measures that get our clients’ Shopware shops up to speed so that performance is right. 😉
Shopware slow: what you need to look at
Shopware server basics
• Enable Memcached • Enable OPC cache • Enable Google PageSpeed cache • Enable PHP 7.2!!!! (7.2 is on average 30% faster than 7.0) • Don’t repeat cron jobs too quickly in a row! • Is GZip active? • Please, please use Nginx hosting. Apache is considerably slower!
Shopware configuration for performance
• Switch cron jobs from live to cron • Don’t run cron jobs more often than necessary • Set the shop to live mode • Enable the HTTP cache • Warm up the cache • Enable compiling and minifying the Shopware theme • Delete unused elements in shopping worlds instead of just hiding them
Shopware plugins for more performance
• With many variants, use variant caching • Use shopping world caching • Use template compression • Use an image compressor • Use server-side image compression for a better PageSpeed score (via the Shopware console with jpegtran and optipng, see also here)
Shopware performance checks
• Google PageSpeed check • Pingdom Tools waterfall, 404 and query check • Check the error logs
As a rule, it is better to invest a little more money in the server! Web hosting for €10 to €20 is usually not enough for reliable performance!
