When Shopware search reaches its limits without Elasticsearch
Without a search index, Shopware answers search queries, filters and category listings directly from the database. With small catalogues this is hardly noticeable. With thousands of products, many variants and property filters, exactly these pages become slow, and the search finds little when there are typos.
What Shopware Elasticsearch does for you
- Search, filters and listings come from a dedicated index.
- The database has more room for basket and checkout.
- Relevance, synonyms and weightings can be fine-tuned.
- Indexing runs in the background via the message queue.
Scope of services
What we take on for your Shopware Elasticsearch setup
- Setup
Connect Elasticsearch or OpenSearch to Shopware 6, self-hosted or as a service.
- Indexing
Index products, variants and properties reliably in the background.
- Search relevance
Weightings, synonyms and typo tolerance to suit your product range.
- Listings & filters
Category pages and filters load quickly from the index.
- Admin search
Search in the Shopware admin also stays quick with large data volumes.
- Monitoring
Index status and cluster in view, so nothing goes stale unnoticed.
With Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, search, filters and category listings in Shopware 6 come from a dedicated search index instead of the database. This keeps these pages fast even with large catalogues and gives the database room for basket and checkout. We set up the index, make indexing reliable and tune relevance to your product range.
Tech stack
- ApplicationShopware, Laravel or WordPress with theme and plugins
- Cache and searchRedis and Elasticsearch configured to fit
- PHPcurrent version with OPcache
- Serverour own servers with NVMe storage
Indexing that reliably keeps up
A search index is only as good as it is up to date. Shopware updates it via the message queue, and that is exactly where things often go wrong: workers are not running, messages pile up, prices in the listing are out of date. We check the background processes, set them up to run permanently and monitor the index. Conspicuous queries outside the search are handled in database query optimisation.

{ /* add data without touching the core */ } Relevance rather than mere hits
A fast index is of little help if the wrong products appear at the top. We weight fields such as name, manufacturer and item number, maintain synonyms and set the typo tolerance. If you also want advice in a chat and search in your customers’ own words, take a look at Minofinder.

Frequently asked questions about Shopware Elasticsearch
All questions and answersElasticsearch or OpenSearch: which should we use?
Shopware 6 supports both. OpenSearch is the open-source offshoot of Elasticsearch. Which one fits depends on your hosting, the Shopware version and existing services.
What about the standard Shopware search?
The standard search works directly with the database. That is sufficient for small catalogues. With many products and filters, a search index is faster and easier to fine-tune.
How does this relate to Minofinder?
Minofinder is our AI search with a product advisor and uses its own index. If you want natural language and advice in a chat as well as speed, you can use Minofinder instead or in addition.
- Performance
Faster Shopware 6 shops: we measure with ShopSignal and Tideways, find the bottlenecks in database, cache, search, theme and server, and fix what makes the biggest difference first.
- Redis
We set up Redis for Shopware 6: for cache, sessions, locks and counters, cleanly separated and configured to stay stable under load.
- Database queries
We find the queries that slow down your Shopware shop, understand them with EXPLAIN and profiling, and fix them with indexes, better DAL queries or adjusted plugin code.
- Database performance
We configure MySQL or MariaDB to suit your Shopware shop, clean up growing tables and make sure background processes do not slow the database down.
